Scully is many things - home protector, child's playmate and nap partner, rabbit chaser, and a wonderful companion around the house. A tall order for a working dog but Scully does her jobs with perfection.
She is a delight to have around invited guests and settles after only a few moments and the obligatory petting to say "Hello." Uninvited guests and strangers bring immediate suspicion and she's sounds off LOUDLY to let us know someone is on the property that shouldn't be. Come to think of it, we haven't had many solicitors since Scully came to live with us. Good girl!
On the Schutzhund field, she's a feisty little thing. If given the opportunity, she'll give you a nice little love nibble....under the sleeve and right on the belly. Just her way of sayin' "bring it on, fat boy!" Yup. That's my Scully.
She loves water and is a certified MSC (Master Sprinkler Canine). Give her a hose, sprinkler, hand nozzle, or even a pool of water and she'll do a heck of a job making sure the water...gets everywhere. Her teeth are very clean too. Water picks are good for things like that.
I must say, it's nice to have a dog that likes ME. Most of the dogs we have, in the kennel and boarding client dogs, all take to Les. It's understandable. I'm a woman. He's a man. He's leader of the pack. I'm the go-to gal when they don't feel good or need something. Pretty standard stuff. But Scully...she's MY dog. Shadows me around the house and only lets me out of her sight to go check on my son late at night when I'm working.
And, speaking of my son, Scully is BEYOND stable and colorant. Logan does all the things you'd expect a rambunctious little kid to do to a dog....pat her too hard on the head, occasionally fall on or over her, throw her ball at her head, TRY to sit on her or pull her tail. She just walks away or looks at me to take care of it. She's a real saint in that respect.
Because we live out in the countryside, we get a lot of critters that come through our yard. We have a resident family of bunnies that seems to have doubled to a four count this year. They really liked my strawberries ...until Scully put an end to it. Cowards!. I must say that Scully sure hit the fence hard trying chase them off after the little beasts ran under it. But she just shook it off and went back to playing with Logan. What a trooper!
Scully's got a few other endearing qualities. She's a bit of a bed-hog. No. Strike that. She's a HUGE bed hog....and yes she sleeps on the bed. (Ahem..) And she snores. LOUDLY. But she's the perfect dog for me and our home. Every dog has a job. Scully is a master of all of hers.
